A Brief Look into the Geneaolgy of Ben Thompson

William Thompson, (Ben’s father) was born December 17, 1816, in Hull, Yorkshire, England. William Thompson came from a line of Master Mariners and at a very young age earned his own sea legs.  He served for eight months  in the Royal British Navy. William Thompson married Mary Ann nee Baker on October 21, 1840, in St. Giles Pontefract, Yorkshire, England.

In the 1851, Knottingley, Yorkshire, census William and Mary Ann Thompson, have three children Benjamin “Ben,” William “Billy,” and Mary Jane.

Baptism:       November 13, 1843, Knottingley, Yorkshire, England.

Death:          March 11, 1884, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

Burial:           Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.

Marriage:      November 24,1863, Austin, Travis County, Texas to Catherine Louise Moore.


2.  William “Billy” Thompson

Birth:           August 25, 1845, Knottingley, Yorkshire, England.

Baptism:      September 10, 1845, Knottingley, Yorkshire, England.

Death:         September 6, 1897, Houston, Harris County, Texas.

Burial:          Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop County, Texas.

Marriage:     Never married.


3.  Mary Jane Thompson

Birth:           March 3, 1848, Knottingley, England.

Baptism:      August 18, 1848, Knottingley, England.

Death:         December 1, 1940, Bastrop, Texas.

Burial:          Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop County, Texas.

Marriage:     December 18, 1867, Robert Gill.


In July of 1852, the Thompson family left Knottingley, England, and set sail to America and settled in Austin, Travis County, Texas.

Six years later, in 1858, Frances Lenora Estelle Thompson, the fourth child in the Thompson family was born in Austin, Texas.

Birth:           March 21, 1858, Austin, Travis County, Texas.

Death:         March 3, 1954, Palestine, Anderson County, Texas.

Burial:        Annex Cemetery, Palestine, Texas.

Marriage:     October 30, 1878, Leopold Ruddolph Fink.
